The last topic on the AS Unit 1 syllabus is the USSR after WW2.  In simple terms, Stalin had proven victorious, partly due to luck and Russian weather, but largely due to the patriotism of the Russian people and the great advances in the industrial base of the nation in the 1930s through the Five Year Plans.  As a result, the Communist Party was firmly in power and ready to step up their policies.
